Dive Into from Karolina Karwan on Vimeo.
We did the VIDEOCLIP "Dive Into" for the polish band called Eric Shoves Them In His Pockets! Most of the scenes are filmed in Indonesia, cause recently we (with Tomek Ratter) are living here. Already during 7 months we have seen a lot in the "Country of paradox". Shots are from that time of living and exploring Java and also from our travel to Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and Flores. After all we realized that most of shots we did are somehow connected, not with the people and culture of Indonesia, but nature. Yes, Nature which is really powerful and unpredictable. We were trying to avoid crowded places and look for the "pureness", which is not so easy to find. Many landscapes are devastated by ignorant people. You can find here the dirtiest river in the world but also the most unusual beach which you have ever seen.... that's this paradox. In our videoclip we wanted to show this better side of nature, which inspired us. Of corse it doesn't mine we don't care of the environmental problems which are serious in this area. We care and that's why we made a mosaic of shots showing overriding force of nature on mysterious way. Video is combined with metaphorical lyrics by Szymon Najder. We prefer this kind of narration then showing problems directly. Video wasn't carefully through out, it was more just working a lot with our intuition and pure flow between images and sound.
Welcome to the tree... Enjoy the video :) band info: facebook.com/ericshoves Zapraszamy do drzewa!

This morning was very surprising. The yellow light woke me up. I looked through the window and I realized that it's snowing. Whaaaaat? Snowing in Indonesia at 30 degrees Celsius? So no, it was the rain of ash. Yesterday night Indonesian volcano Kelud erupted. It is located in East Java, 250 km from Yogyakarta - city where I am living right now. I didn't know how to react, finally we decided to get on motorbike and ride to the town through the clouds of ash.

a little bit about my amasing grandma called Joanna Karwan, for friends - Żaneta.
First you can see photo installation. The photo in the frame was taken at the time not long before her death. This work pays tribute to her and is an attempt to accept the loss of a beloved person.
